Full-grain leather
Vegetable-tanned hides that develop a rich patina with every use, never a plastic finish.
Handloom cotton
Naturally dyed Ikat and Kutchi weaves, sourced directly from weaver clusters in Gujarat.
Saddle-stitched seams
Double-thread hand stitching that outlasts machine seams by years, not months.
Solid brass fittings
Antique brass buckles and rivets that won't rust, chip or tarnish in Indian humidity.
The word on a label rarely tells you what you are paying for. Here is the difference, plainly put.
| Full-grain (what we use) | Genuine / bonded leather | |
|---|---|---|
| Which layer of the hide | The top layer, with the grain intact | Split lower layers, or scrap glued into a sheet |
| How it ages | Darkens into a patina, gets better with years | Cracks, flakes and peels once the coating wears |
| Tanning | Vegetable-tanned with bark extracts | Usually chrome-tanned for speed and cost |
| Surface finish | Natural grain — every hide reads differently | Embossed plastic layer printed to look like grain |
| Hardware | Solid brass buckles and rivets | Plated zinc that pits in humidity |
| Stitching | Saddle-stitched by hand, two needles per seam | Single-thread machine lockstitch |
| Expected life | A decade or more with basic care | One to three years of daily use |
Every Thaila bag passes through the karkhana in Dharavi where our master cutters, stitchers and finishers work leather the slow way. No assembly line, no shortcuts.
A single tote takes nearly two days to complete, and each one carries the initials of the artisan who finished it, tucked quietly inside.
Typical specifications across the range — each product page carries the exact measurements for that bag.
No, that is the hide showing its history. Full-grain leather keeps its natural grain, healed scars and stretch marks, so no two bags are identical. Those marks even out and deepen into a patina within a few months of use.
Wipe with a dry cloth after a humid day, never store it in a plastic cover, and keep it out of direct sun. Rub in a little leather conditioner or plain beeswax every three months. If it gets caught in the rain, blot it dry and let it air out slowly — no hairdryer.
Stitching that comes loose and hardware that fails — buckles, rivets, zips, strap fittings. Send it back and our karkhana re-stitches or replaces the part rather than writing the bag off. Cuts, burns and normal patina are not covered, but we will still quote you a repair.

“Bought the Kutchi tote a year ago and it has only gotten better looking. The leather feels alive now. Worth every rupee.”

“I use the laptop bag for office every single day. Stitching is rock solid and the brass buckles still look brand new after months of Mumbai monsoon.”
Rohan Mehta, Mumbai
“Gifted the handloom sling to my mother. She keeps telling everyone about the artisan's initials inside. Such a thoughtful little touch.”
